La Sphere JIOR est un de ces mondes artificiels. Pacifiste, ce pays ne possède pas de véritable armée et préfère payer afin d'avoir la paix avec ses voisins. Mais cette paix est troublée le jour où 5 jeunes garçons originaires de Dorssia s'infiltrent dans la colonie en se faisant passer pour des étudiants. Leur but : le mecha Valvrave, caché au sein d'une académie de JIOR. Attaqués, les étudiants se protègent comme ils peuvent. C'est alors que Haruto Takishima et ses amis vont se retrouver nez à nez avec le fameux Valvrave. Ne souhaitant pas resté passif, Haruto monte à bord, scellant ainsi son destin.
